Stay In Your Genius Zone

Are you an HR Generalist, working on everything, knowing a little bit or a lot about everything? When asked “What is it that you do?” you may default to “I do/work in HR” but you will quickly realize a lot of people don’t know what HR actually is.

In my journey, I have learned that there is a huge difference in knowing how to do HR and

actually running a HR company. Somewhere in between I have learned what I am really great at and what I am not so good at. It took some time to identify these strengths and weaknesses. In the spirit of learning, I also learned that I needed to outsource and delegate some of the things I was not good at instead of beating myself up about not being able to do those things. I was trying to make something work that just wouldn't work. I learned that I was great at teaching, training, coaching, and strategy. However, I was not good at the tactical side of things. I can do it, but I struggle. Just because you can do something, doesn’t necessarily mean that you should be doing it.

I’m saying all of this to say, tap into your royal. Find out what you have been called to do. I’m not saying that you will not have to do things that you don’t want to because we all know that’s not true. I’m saying that you have options and be clear on what areas you excel in. You may need to collaborate with others to meet your end goal.

Take my experience for example, I struggle with business finance, it is just not my strong suit. I didn’t realize how much actually went into business finances until I started my own. I can budget for my household, but for a business, it is completely different. So, I decided to collaborate with an expert to help me out. They are assisting with payroll, taxes, and more. Now that process is flowing smoothly.

I really want to encourage you to find your special areas, be who you are called to be. When you are doing things that you are not very good at, you don’t exude the light that you exude when you are doing something that you excel at. You may need to reach out to someone and collaborate with them to reach your ultimate goal.
